چکیده

The phase structure and the pitting susceptibility of two carbon steels, Q235 and HRB335, used for reinforced concrete, are investigated by phase observation, polarization curve measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and Mott-Schottky analysis. It is found that Q235 is ferrite and HRB335 is pearlite. Q235 is more susceptible to chloride ions leading to pitting than HRB335. The polarization curves show that the breakdown potential of the passive film in saturated Ca(OH)2 solution containing 0.4 M NaCl is 0 V for Q235 and 0.34 V for HRB335. The Mott-Schottky analyses show that passive films formed on Q235 and HRB335 in saturated Ca(OH)2 solution containing chloride ions behave like an n-type semiconductor. The passive film formed on Q235 has a higher donor density, which explains why Q235 is more susceptible to pitting than HRB335.

Retrofitting of Reinforced Concrete Beams with Steel Fiber Reinforced Composite Jackets

In the present study, a new method for retrofitting reinforced concrete beam is introduced in which steel-concrete composite jackets containing steel fiber is used. For this purpose, 75% of the peripheral surface of reinforced concrete beams was initially reinforced using steel plates and bolts, and steel fiber reinforced concrete was used between the steel plates and the peripheral surfaces of...

Strain and Damage Sensing Property of Self-compacting Concrete Reinforced with Carbon Fibers

Present paper investigated the strain and damage sensing property on concrete cubes embedded with carbon fibers. Concrete cubes of dimension 150 mm have been casted with different concentration of carbon fibers to study the strain and damage sensing property under cyclic loading that can be further used for health monitoring as non-destructive testing (NDT) approach. All the specimens were test...

Strain Rate Behavior in Tension of Reinforcing Steels HPB235, HRB335, HRB400, and HRB500

The strain rate effect of reinforcing steel bars is generally indispensable for modeling the dynamic responses of reinforced concrete structures in blast and impact events. A systematic experimental investigation was conducted on the strain rate behavior of reinforcing steel bar grades HPB235, HRB335, HRB400, and HRB500 which are widely used in the field of civil engineering in China. The dynam...

Reliability Analysis of Corroded Reinforced Concrete Beams Using Enhanced HL-RF Method

Steel corrosion of bars in concrete structures is a complex process which leads to the reduction of the cross-section bars and decreasing the resistance of the concrete and steel materials. In this study, reliability analysis of a reinforced concrete beam with corrosion defects under the distributed load was investigated using the enhanced Hasofer-Lind and Rackwitz-Fiessler (EHL-RF) method base...

Prediction of effective moment of inertia for hybrid FRP-steel reinforced concrete beams using the genetic algorithm

Abstract:   The use of Concrete beams reinforced with a combination of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel bars has increased dramatically in recent years, due to improvement in strength and flexural ductility simultaneously. In this paper, we proposed a new equation for estimating the effective moment of inertia of hybrid FRP-steel reinforced concrete (RC) beams on the basis of the...
